10 Reasons to Sign-Up for Global Momentum 2016!

Why attend Global Momentum 2016 in Las Vegas from July 27-31?? Well here are 10 reasons why (in no particular order):

  1. Meet and befriend amazing people from all around the world. Not only is CARP an awesome national community of students, but it is also international. We are expecting students from over 20 countries to attend. Since Momentum workshops began in 2014, the biggest highlight has been making friends with people from all over the world. IPEC_7-Day
  2. Experience the world-class education center in Las Vegas. The International Peace Education Center (IPEC) is one of the most recent (and most note-worthy in our opinion) additions to Las Vegas. While Las Vegas is known for hosting conventions and conferences, IPEC blows other facilities out of the water with its radiance, elegance, and sophistication. It is the best space for the best education to take place. Father Moon initiated this building for that exact reason – for global education to take place.
  3. It’s the simplest way to plug into CARP. Get the full experience and learn what CARP is all about. (Spoiler alert: CARP is about developing global citizens!) You’ll receive the education, training, and support network to be a global citizen and you won’t leave the workshop the same person.
  4. Empower yourself. You will get immersed in CARP culture and will be surrounded by other like-minded young people who want to develop themselves. You may be looking for a great experience this summer or you may want to get connected to something inspiring. If so, this is the place for you. IMG_2951
  5. Empower others. It’s a known axiom that when you invest in others, you naturally also invest in yourself. They can easily go hand-in-hand. CARP’s mission is to develop global citizens, meaning people who are concerned about the well-being of the world and who are called to take action and make a difference.
  6. Experience the Principle in a brand new way. You’ll experience STEP UP (STudent EmPowerment through Unification Principles), CARP’s 2-day signature program. It’s interactive, engaging, and relevant to your life. You’ll discover how principles can change your life and even if you’ve heard these principles before, you haven’t seen them like this.
  7. COOL MERCH!!! Go back to campus rocking the awesome CARP look. It’s distinguished, refined, and cool. These aren’t your usual run-of-the-mill hoodies or cheap materials you’ll throw away later. CARP swag is seriously the coolest. LVTOUR2
  8. Experience the hidden wonders of Las Vegas. Join an optional 2-day sightseeing tour to the natural beauties surrounding Las Vegas like the Grand Canyon, Lake Meade, Red Rocks, Hoover Dam, etc. Take time to reflect and connect with nature.
  9. Celebrate like it’s 2016. We’re celebrating CARP’s 50th Anniversary with an awesome banquet celebration on Saturday, July 30th. We will walk through CARP’s history in the last 50 years, acknowledge what we have accomplished, and create another 50+ years of incredible accomplishments. Join the celebration with us. 10. Develop a personal relationship with God. Wherever you are at in your life of faith, this workshop will give you the space to discover God in a powerful and meaningful way. Through morning spiritual practices and interactive sessions, you can give yourself the gift of focusing your time and attention on your relationship with God.

There are plenty of other reasons to attend: 1-on-1 coaching sessions, panels and breakout sessions on “Principles at Work,” skills training, public speaking training, event planning sessions, and more.

Did we mention it’s going to be super fun? We don’t want to spoil the surprises so do yourself a favor and register. 😉 Go to carplife.org/summer2016

CARP Austria Hosts their 1st STEP UP session!

On June 16, 2016, CARP Austria hosted their very first STEP UP session. They were first introduced to STEP UP in April when CARP America’s International Liaison, Nina Urbonya, visited and presented on STEP UP. CARP Austria liked it so much that they immediately asked for materials to facilitate sessions on their own. Through a special STEP UP webinar training hosted by CARP America over the last few weeks, several international CARP chapters have been able to experience all of the STEP UP sessions and receive the necessary training to facilitate it in their own communities.

Akio Friesacher, along with other members from his team, attended the sessions and just hosted his very first STEP UP session. 14 people attended including one new guest, Elias, that he invited from his university.

Akio chose to facilitate the session on the principle, “We all ultimately want to experience joy” because of a realization he had during one of the webinar sessions. Through listening to the facilitator, Justin, overcoming his own complaints, Akio also discovered how to overcome his “hidden complaints” and how turn them into something productive. Through the facilitator training he received, Akio felt prepared and confident to lead the session in front of a group of people.

Akio’s Time in the Spotlight

Akio began his session with a quote from the Divine Principle: “Joy is created through pursuing our original desire to do good. We can only experience eternal happiness when we are totally liberated from ignorance.” Akio emphasized that certain blocks (such as ignorance, complaints, judgement, and accusations) help us to avoid our responsibility and prevent us from fulfilling our “original desire.” However, by being aware of our ignorance, we can make an intentional effort to get unstuck. If our motivation is rooted in our original desire for joy, then these blocks can have no effect on us.

Akio’s Reflections

The best way to gain experience is to ‘just do it.’ In presenting STEP UP, Akio found it difficult to make sure every participant was engaged and could share among the group. He reflected that he can improve his skills by giving more attention to each participant and ensure that their issues are heard and understood next time.

*By the time this article was published, CARP Austria actually held their second STEP UP session! They are on a roll and we wish them the best in all future sessions!

Welcome to the Team, David!

In June, CARP welcomed its newest staff member, David Young, to serve as a Student Coach. We wanted you to get to know him a bit more because he is so darn cool!

JSY-PROFILE-2

“Why not have it all? Young people can have a healthy, balanced, and successful life with the happiness of changing the world.” – David Young

David attended his first CARP Workshop in 2014. He shared, “I respected Naokimi though I hadn’t worked closely with him before; I was ready to follow whatever he had in mind.”

After that experience he stayed involved by becoming a CARP Chapter Advisor for Ohio State University and West Virginia University. He also participated in workshops and offered presentations, trainings, and other support.

Meanwhile in his professional life, he pursued pastoral work, developed his own coaching business (JSY Coaching), created a seminar based on Principles (Take Your Life On), and was offered a job as a government intelligence analyst to utilize his Master’s in East Asian Languages and Literature. However, he had a passion for making a greater, global impact. Discovering and working with CARP enlightened him to the potential he had always possessed and the bigger reach he could make with CARP.10506568_4391911413019_7896832392878743109_o

“I want to bring life coaching to universities. Life coaching changes your perspective and, as a result, your life. I think CARP will have more impact than we even realize now.”

In this world where surviving is the norm, David chooses to thrive and to help those around him thrive, too. David has found fulfillment in his own life by applying Unification Principles and wants to extend these principles to the masses. He uses his training to connect with and uplift others, providing solutions to societal issues, one person at a time.Like David, by contributing to our community through our unique talents, we can experience true happiness. 12377869_10153785546978665_818816521320440781_o

David’s positive attitude and supportive family sustains him. He adores his wife, Rika, and son, Michael, and they are expecting another bundle of joy in September. They live in Columbus, OH but love traveling together as a family, when possible.

Welcome to the team, David! We’re excited for all that you will offer to CARP, its students, and the world.
