Dear CARP Family
Since its founding in January 1966, the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles has led the charge in promoting a new worldview based on the Divine Principle to college students. With the establishment of CARP at Columbia University in 1973, that effort took root in America, and has flourished over the past 50 years. The National Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles Inc. (NCARP) was founded in 1980 to support the growth of the CARP movement in America. In its 43 year history, NCARP has undertaken many significant providential initiatives, such as combatting Marxism, advocating for Pure Love, and presenting a “Headwing” approach to cultural issues through the Principled Worldview Curriculum. These efforts resulted in broader cultural impact on the college campuses, centered on the Divine Principle worldview.
Since Father Moon’s ascension in 2012, Mother Moon has encouraged the entire Unification Family to return to the spirit and truth of the early days of Father Moon’s ministry. CARP America responded to that direction in many ways, including through the Hyo Jeong Trips to Japan and Korea in 2017 and 2018 when many young people who were new to CARP and the Unification Movement were able to meet Mother Moon for the first time.
In the past decade, CARP has grown more and more integrated as a core program of the local Family Federation communities to which they belong, characterized as a “campus ministry” with a broader social and cultural mission. In recognition of this reality, as well as of the founders’ past and recent directions, CARP and Family Federation leadership have decided that NCARP shall be merged into and become a department of Family Federation. Doing so will allow NCARP to more readily respond to directions from its founders and more effectively support local chapters that are already part of local Family Federation communities. We intend to complete the merger and begin to operate as a department of Family Federation by the end of July of this year.
We are incredibly grateful to the many CARP supporters and alumni who have allowed this great organization to thrive throughout its vibrant history, expanding its presence to over 40 campuses throughout the United States today, and to continue to enrich the lives of young people today. Please feel free to make a donation towards our future here. We are excited as CARP enters a new stage in its development. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
With deepest gratitude,
Jinil Fleischman
President, NCARP
